Dredging its not the answer to keeping lakes open.

Dredging has been a hot button issue around the Shoalhaven especially at Huskisson, Sussex Inlet, and Lake Conjola.

Council has been forging ahead with a city wide dredging program which has been nearly as fluid as the sand it wishes to extract. See the New Bush Telegraph for extended stories on dredging including the following.

Doubts about council’s dredging program

GREENS councillor Amanda Findley does not think the community has been sufficiently informed about Shoalhaven City Council’s proposed dredging program.
“The review of environmental factors is over 500 pages and inaccessible for most of our residents. I believe the scope of the dredging is too much.
“Dredging should be the bare minimum needed for environmental repair and go no further. And I don’t think any of the sand dredged up should be sold; it should be kept for further use.”
Cr Findley agreed that a good use of the dredge spoil was the planned reinforcement of sand dunes at Conjola and Sussex Inlet.
